We've received many questions about the human interface of OpenDoc™. Many of these can best be answered by a series of demonstrations, so that's what we've created.
There are several other sources of OpenDoc human interface information. For example, the OpenDoc Programmers Guide includes the HI Guidelines. This release also contains several HI FAQs from Apple Directions and an introduction to the OpenDoc HI in our Apple develop article.

How the demos were created…
These QuickTime™ movies are real-time screen captures of us actually using OpenDoc. We created a few simple documents using the sample parts provided on the CD. We then "filmed" them using CameraMan™ on a Macintosh 8100. We had a friend, Kevin Calhoun, record the narration and we used Adobe Premier™ to sync video and audio.
Because these movies were captured live, there are a few artifacts. Some of the operations don't show up properly, for example zoom rects, drag and drop feedback and menu highlighting. Some operations appear to be slower than they are in normal operation, for example repainting of windows. We did minor editing to the video to shrink a few delays that really distracted from the demo, and we added a few frames to point out missing d&d feedback. Otherwise, these movies are completely lifelike.
We hope you find these demos helpful. We welcome your feedback.
